Bespoke
Dresser operates a service for
customers who have special projects
for timber products not featured in our catalogue.
We have supplied architectural items for the renovation of historical buildings, private clients who are building or refurbishing their own homes, commercial properties, leisure outlets designing themed premises, religious buildings including churches.
In some cases we have been asked to copy ornate carved features to a customers particular requirement.
The following examples are a few items we have been asked to do.
If you have a special project involving wood carving please contact us us for a prompt response.

Replacement carvings for a historic building
Many
historical buildings during their life can fall into disrepair,
sometimes due to change of use or more often due to neglect.
A fact that is true in the west is that the craftsmen whose
skills produced the features on our historic buildings have
slowly disappeared. Whilst it is true that there are specialist
people who can still carve in stone and wood a refurbishment
project can sometimes not be economically viable. This following
project shows how Dresser copied some architectural timber
carvings for the restoration of the Victorian Winter Gardens
theatre in Morecambe UK.
The image left shows three
pieces of the pilaster capital.
These
were the only
sections available.
Dresser
were presented with a few examples of the carvings that were
left. These samples were damaged, rotted, and covered in
paint as can seen in the image on the right.
With the aid of computer editing we were able to reconstruct a computer image of the large pilaster capital. The carvers had a picture model to work with. Once the dimensions had been established the items were carved to their original shape.
The
image left shows the finished carving made from the model
computer image.
The final carvings produced are shown below together with a picture of the restored building.
